The United States ambassador, Ken Salazar, agreed with President Joe Biden that on January 7 he will conclude his mission in our country. “I have shared with my friend @POTUS “Biden how honored I have been to serve as the United States ambassador to Mexico, and that my last day as ambassador will be January 7, when I will leave the country,” he posted on his X account.
Until then, I will continue to work with our 3,300 employees in Mexico to strengthen the world’s most important bilateral relationship and ensure they are prepared to continue advancing North American integration during the coming transition.
The veteran Democratic politician has announced that he will not work for Donald Trump.
Upon his departure and until he is ratified and his successor, Ronald Johnson, arrives in Mexico, the embassy will be headed by Mark Johnson, deputy chief of mission.
In the morning, Salazar expressed in an interview his optimism for the future of the bilateral relationship with Mexico, after the appointment of Johnson as his replacement.
He warned, however, that he does not know Johnson and preferred not to comment on the background of the designated ambassador and former CIA agent.
At night, Ken Salazar held a farewell party at his official residence in Mexico City, accompanied by his family, embassy staff, Mexican authorities and representatives of the private sector.
He thanked everyone for the great effort they make every day
and assured that during his little more than three years in Mexico he worked to strengthen the bilateral relationship with the perspective that the country and the United States we are a family
and highlighted that in this period both countries became the largest trading partners in history.
