Bavaro, Punta Cana.– The mayor of La Vega, Kelvin Cruz, was ratified to continue in the presidency of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu) for the period 2022-2024, during the General Electoral Assembly of the institution, where 85 percent of the voters participated. country mayors.
The mayor was unanimously selected by his colleagues, who valued the management carried out since his election in the last 2020 assembly as positive.
In his welcoming remarks, the mayor of Higüey, Rafael Barón Duluc, highlighted the work carried out by Cruz during his past administration, which is why he urged him to continue his work in defense of the Dominican municipality.
The electoral commission was made up of Rafael Hidalgo, former president of Fedomu; Laura Indira Reyes, who was ratified as executive director, and Waldys Taveras.
After his election, Cruz thanked the trust placed in him and promised to continue developing his work in favor of strengthening the municipality.
The re-elected president of the associative entity also thanked the support he has received from President Luis Abinader to carry out an inclusive management, without taking into account party preferences when collaborating with mayors.
Likewise, Cruz highlighted among his achievements the incorporation into the Social Security system of municipal public servants and their families, equipping regional technical offices, agreements with various government institutions and the creation together with the LMD of the television program “Visión Municipal”, to promote good practices in local governments.
“We negotiated with President Luis Abinader a contribution of 583 million pesos to pay the double salary of municipal workers and thus end the tedious trips to the National Congress to request loans to honor this commitment,” he added.
He recalled that by order of President Abinader, Fedomu received a contribution of one million dollars through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration to help the municipalities in the eastern region of the country affected by Hurricane Fiona.
He said that within the purpose of placing Fedomu on the international agenda, he participated in several international training events and exchange of experiences.
