Popular Force bets on the vacancy. This was announced by Keiko Fujimori at a proselytizing meeting that took place this past Saturday in Callao. As can be seen in a video broadcast by Epicentro TV, the leader of Fujimori points to Congress as responsible for prolonging the political crisis through their actions.
In this sense, the former presidential candidate told her supporters that Congress must get to work to vacate Pedro Castillo or else, step aside and start the path towards new elections in advance.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t know what’s going to happen in our country. The Congress of the Republic has a great responsibility and I am not going to tire of repeating: if President Castillo does not want to resign, then they have to vacate him; and if they are not going to vacate it, then everyone has to leave!” declared Fujimori.
On previous occasions, Keiko Fujimori has expressed that she has opted for the advancement of elections to alleviate the situation of conflict that has been taking place during the course of Pedro Castillo’s presidency. However, this option has lacked the necessary support in Fuerza Popular and has revealed a lack of cohesion within the orange party, with several of its parliamentarians openly against new general elections.
If there were a scenario of new elections, the head of Fujimorism announced that he would not stand for them and that, on the contrary, he would choose to become an “activist for political consensus.”
The path of vacancy
The Congress has already announced the advent of a third vacancy motion, prepared by the congressman of the Purple Party, Ed Málaga, to which the right-wing benches adhere immutably: Fuerza Popular, Renovación Popular and Avanza País, promoters of the vacancy in previous opportunities.
However, despite the intentions of the vacant bloc, to carry out this process successfully they are conditioned to obtain support that they do not currently have. They require a change in the opinion of the pro-government groups to add the minimum 87 votes required by the measure. This was recognized at the end of August by parliamentarian Diego Bazán, from Avanza País.
“We have to be realistic: here we need the votes of the ruling party, we need the votes of these groups close to the President of the Republic. I am confident that the votes do exist. I think that at this time the majority of Parliament has reflected, ”he said.
