“Keep looking”, asks survivor of the Cárdenas shipwreck

“Sigan buscando”, pide sobreviviente del naufragio de Cárdenas

CDMX, Mexico.-Cuban Yaylin Mesa Vázquez, one of the survivors of the shipwreck of rafters who left Cárdenas on January 23asked the authorities not to stop the search for the bodies, so that their families can say goodbye and bury them.

the woman did a Facebook post where he said that they have received news that the Cuban coast guard has decided to stop the search for the 12 people who are still missing.

“I beg everyone to do their bit, everyone who can help search. The coast guard wants to stop the search and I understand that after 48 hours the body rises and floats. How is it possible that they want to stop the search?”, questioned the rafter. “That’s not fair. Many families are waiting, even if it is their body, to have a burial.”

Yaylin confessed that although she feels grateful to be alive, she suffers immense pain because she lost her older sister and friends on the journey.

“Thank God I was able to get out of that nightmare. God gave me an opportunity. Although I am still alive, my heart is broken because there I lost my older sister, a warrior woman who fought until she couldn’t anymore,” Yailyn wrote.

The young woman also accompanied her request for images where the injuries and burns on her skin can be seen and expressed that her traveling companions “did not deserve to die” because “they only wanted a better future for themselves and their families.”

“I only ask the authorities to do their job well and touch their hearts and keep looking, to search well inside the keys because I am sure that there are many more in the keys,” she added.

Mesa pointed out that she and another woman were rescued by a fishing boat and not by border guard troops, as the official note stated.

Yesterday, January 27, through its propaganda media, the Cuban government notified that at least five people died and 12 are missing after the shipwreck of a homemade boat off the coast of Cárdenas.

The names of the almost 30 rafters Those involved were not revealed in the statement, which only detailed that among the deceased is a 19-year-old girl.

“All those involved in the incident reside in Cárdenas and left the country illegally on January 23 through Torrontela, a point on the Cárdenas coast, with the purpose of reaching United States territory, exposing themselves to a risky journey,” add the official medium.
