In Venezuela, according to figures from the Criminal Forum, there are 183 women detained for political reasons and among them is Karyn Graymar Bastidas, 31. It was arrested in Lara state on August 2, in the post -election context.
On the day of their arrest the state agents had no order and took it without being able to defend. That day, he had left a still life to buy some soft drinks and some chucheías to celebrate his daughter’s birthday, who was fulfilling his first year of life.
“Operation Tun Tun came to her, they were looking for her for a comment that she issued on social networks,” Karyn’s father explained to Runrunes.
Karyn was a worker of the Government of the Lara State and, at the beginning of the post -election repression, he raised his voice against the abuse and inhuman treatment that were reported in the Venezuelan prisons, in a message addressed to the governor, Adolfo Pereira Antique.
That brave position was enough to be arrested. Currently, he is held in the Conas de Santa Rosa, in Barquisimeto, where his family denounces the degrading treatment he is receiving.
Karyn Bastidas can’t breastfeed her daughter
Bastidas was breastfeeding his daughter when she was arrested, and separating from her has caused her deep emotional pain, a suffering that reflects in the letters she sends to her parents.
Karyn’s father denounces that, sometimes, they do not allow her daughter to bame her granddaughter. “The custodian on guard has to be humorous to allow it and it is painful to see that,” he says.
According to the Law for the Promotion, Protection and Support for Breastfeeding, all children have the right to breastfeeding in adequate conditions.

In article 22, they speak of emergency situations: “In emergency situations and disasters, breastfeeding must be ensured as an ideal means to guarantee the life, health and integral development of children.”
In the document, it is also established that the State must guarantee the conditions for this to be met. In section two it is clear:
“The State, with the solidarity participation of the organized communities will promote, protect and support the exclusive breastfeeding of free demand for children until six months of age and, breastfeeding with timely complementary food, adequate, adequate; innocuous and duly administered until two years of age. ”
“Her daughter needs her mother, but she is locked up. It is not fair, because she did nothing. We have put the necessary resources to attend their home. I have traveled to Caracas and I had to look for money that I do not have to help my daughter, and nowhere give us answers, ”says Karin’s father.
Karin’s two daughters were in charge of their parents. His mother is oncological patient and his father is retired. The family does what it can to stay afloat. The Lord, recently, had to sell his car to pay for the expenses he represents to have a detained loved one.
In Venezuelan prisons, food is scarce, as well as personal cleaning products and dignified treatment. Karin is next to common dams that are already serving a sentence and has received threats from his companions.
“I tell him to get down and not tell him anything because it can be worse, they can hit it,” exclaims his dad.
In his letters, Karin says he eats little and discouragement is consuming her. He has been away from his daughters, his family and his daily life for six months.
“In one of those letters he told me that he wanted to end his life, but he doesn’t because he doesn’t want to leave his daughters. It is very painful, ”he says.
The economic weight of having a relative detained
In a country like Venezuela, having a relative relative is a weight that not everyone can sustain. In a report by the United Nations Organization, backed by eight instances, they narrated that the prison conditions in Venezuela are serious.
In their research, they stressed that within the detention centers there are no specialist doctors and this results in detainees developing other diseases.

Karin also has health problems that have not been treated. His parents have tried all the means for a forensic doctor to evaluate and corroborate his column problems, which make it difficult to walk.
“They told us that in order for a doctor to attend it, there must be an order signed by Nicolás Maduro himself, we have gone to the Public Ministry and all instances, and they ignore us,” said his father.
His family only cries out for his freedom and wishes to return to his place at the table, see her near her daughters and return to work for her dreams, although in this country, freedom seems like a lost good.
