The president of the Board of Directors of FC Bayer, Oliver Kahn, rejected interpretations of the Catalan press according to which he would have “mocked” Barcelona during the Champions League draw, with a smile when it became known that the Catalans would share a group with Bayern.
“This interpretation is totally out of place,” Kahn told the Bild newspaper when asked about the reactions of the Spanish media.
“Robert Lewandowski has left us just a few weeks ago to sign for Barcelona and the draw means that we meet again at the base of the Champions League groups. Those football trivia made me smile,” Kahn said.
“I have great respect for Robert and Barcelona, the two games are going to be a party for the fans of both teams and for soccer fans in general,” he added.
Kahn, within the Bayern directives, was initially radically opposed to a transfer of Lewandowski and only gave in to an offer of 45 million euros plus variables, for a player who only had one year left on his contract.
The last clashes between Barcelona and Bayern have not had a happy ending for the Catalans.
Last season Bayern won 0-3 and 3-0 in the group stage.
In the quarterfinals of the 2019/2020 season, in which Bayern would ultimately win the competition, Barcelona even conceded a historic 2-8 win that generated an earthquake within the institution. EFE
