Justice reopens cause for explosion in Villa Biarritz

Judge Dolores Sánchez decided to reopen the case at the request of the relatives of the deceased and of those who were injured by the explosion. Those affected and the insurers had requested the reopening in September due to doubts about the official report of the case. Among the aspects that they question is the number of sources of explosion, the gas measurements of the previous days and chemical tests not carried out.

The National Director of Firefighters, Ricardo Riaño, supported this Thursday the work of the troops who worked in the Villa Biarriz building that exploded on July 22, hours after it became known that the case had been reopened in Justice. «For us it does not imply anything that the case is reopened because the expert file is concluded. The conclusion reached by our experts is overwhelming.

The conclusion has objective, relevant data and we will support it until the last moment. Those who have the burden of refuting that conclusion are those who think otherwise. We are convinced of what we do and our work is professional”, emphasized Riaño. Riaño did not share these doubts and insisted: “The disconnection of a hose that should have had a gas connection was reliably verified. It was a craft-type connection that allowed a significant gas leak.

We have no doubts about it.” The case had been closed at the Justice level after the Fire Department report concluded that it was an accidental event, and it was considered definitive in terms of criminal responsibilities. Now, a surrogate prosecutor will have 20 days to review the file.
