The Rotterdam Court will decide this Monday, at around 8:00 a.m. in Chile, whether to accept the request of the Antofagasta Prosecutor’s Office and the Foreign Ministry to extradite the former mayor of Antofagasta Karen Redwho fled the country after being convicted by the Supreme Court for tax fraud.
The exedil’s lawyer, daniel mackinnonpointed to The Star of Antofagasta that Rojo “is aware that it is a complex issue and has a good defense in the Netherlands. The lawyers who represent her are very good, she is doing very well without any inconvenience beyond those of the process itself.”

Let us remember that the Supreme Court sentenced Rojo on March 23, 2022, to an effective sentence of five years and one day in prison for the consummated crime of tax fraud, committed between October 2015 and August 2016.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Rojo used resources from the Municipal Corporation for Social Development of Antofagasta to pay for the services of a communications agency for personal purposes, with a view to his re-election. It is the Main Communications firm belonging to the political scientist Jose Miguel Izquierdo.
The highest court also sentenced the former executive secretary of the Municipal Corporation, Edgar Vergarato a sentence of three years and one day in prison, with the benefit of probation.
Rojo fled the country on March 23, on a KML airline flight that took her to the Netherlands. The National Central Office of Interpol Santiago issued an international red alert on March 24 to request the arrest of the former mayor.
The Antofagasta Prosecutor’s Office reported on July 13 that Rojo was detained in the Netherlands.
