The former Brazilian soccer player Robinho will remain in prison in Brazil, where he celebrates a nine -year prison sentence for group violationafter the Supreme Court rejected on Monday an appeal that requested its release. The Supreme Court announced that the decision on the former Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team was taken by majority votes during a virtual session.
Robinho, 41, has been imprisoned since March 2024 in the Prison of Tremembé, 150 km from São Paulo (southeast). He was convicted of the group rape of a young Albanian who celebrated his 23rd birthday at a Milan disco, Italy. Incidents date back to 2013, when I played for AC Milan.
Condemned in 2017, its judgment was confirmed by the Italian Cassation Court in January 2022. The Brazilian Constitution does not allow extradition of its nationals. When the former player returned to Brazil during the trial in Italy in 2017, the Italian courts requested that Robinho fulfill his sentence in his native country. The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) of Brasilia accepted this request.
