Teacher Monique Medeiros, mother of the boy Henry Borel, who died on March 8 of last year, was transferred to an individual cell at Instituto Santo Expedito, in Bangu, in the Gericinó Complex. The decision is made by the judge Joaquim Domingos de Almeida Neto, of the 7th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro.
The judge of the Court of Criminal Executions (VEP), Marcelo Rubioli, was the one who passed the determination of the measure to the Secretariat and State of Penitentiary Administration (Seap). In a note, Seap reported that “the court decision that determines that Monique Medeiros is kept in an individual cell at the Santo Expedito Penal Institute in Bangu has already been fulfilled”.
As the unit does not have individual cells, to house inmates with higher education, Seap adapted a room to protect Monique. Henry’s mother was in prison with eight inmates, including lawyer Elaine Pereira Figueiredo Lessa, wife of retired PM sergeant Ronnie Lessa, defendant in the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes. Monique has a degree in Pedagogy.
Monique Medeiros is accused of the murder of her own son, Henry Borel, along with former councilor Jairo Souza Santos Júnior, former councilor Dr. Jairinho, the child’s stepfather and her companion at the time of the boy’s death, in March last year.
Even today, the Superior Court of Justice had denied the request for suspension of preventive detention made by the defense of the teacher.
Determination
On June 29, Judge Joaquim Domingos de Almeida Neto, of the Seventh Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, rapporteur of the decision to return Professor Monique Medeiros da Costa e Silva to the penitentiary system, referred her to serving time at the Santo Expedito Penal Institute, in Bangu, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The decision takes into account restrictions on women’s incarceration in the Military Police’s Special Prison Battalion, a place previously determined for the sentence.
In the order, the magistrate informed that the provisional female custody of Monique Medeiros in Bangu is in the most secure area of a special prison in the state, and that in the prison battalion it would be impossible for the detainee to sunbathe.
