The Justice Commission of the Assembly met this Saturday, January 15, 2022. In the meeting, held electronically, the legislators resolved to lower the deadline to execute the termination of pregnancy (abortion) for pregnant women over 18 years of age.
In the new text it was established that the abortion in cases of rape for the elderly It can be practiced legally for up to 20 weeks (5 months). In a previous consideration, a term of 28 weeks (7 months) was foreseen.
The text of article 19 of the initiative of interruption voluntary pregnancy for rape cases it was as follows.
Art. 19. Deadlines.- In order to guarantee the right to make a free and voluntary decision of terminate the pregnancy, considering the special characteristics of each age group and that deserve priority attention by the state, there will be the following deadlines:
1.- When dealing with girls and adolescents under 18 years of age victims of rape, the voluntary interruption of pregnancy may be carried out up to 22 weeks of gestation.
2.- When dealing with women and people pregnant women 18 years and older, rape victims, the Voluntary termination of pregnancy can be done until 20 weeks gestation.
