The Federal Court of the Federal District determined today (30) the blockade of the assets of 40 people arrested in flagrante delicto for the depredation of the buildings of the Three Powers during the anti-democratic acts of January 8th. The decision complies with the lawsuit filed by the Attorney General’s Office (AGU). Blocking will occur on real estate, vehicles and bank accounts.
In the request, the AGU argues that the participants of the acts, suspected of financing the acts or that depredated, must bear the damage caused to public property, estimated at R$ 18.5 million. In the decision, federal judge Francisco Alexandre Ribeiro states that the Union has demonstrated that there are “strong indications, therefore, that the said defendants have participated in the anti-democratic acts and demonstrations that culminated in the invasion and mass depredation of the official headquarters of the Three Powers of Republic, which is why the thesis of the Union that they contributed to the achievement of massive damage to public property is absolutely plausible, being liable, therefore, to civil liability, under the terms of articles 186, 927 and 942 of the Civil Code”.
According to the AGU, so far, 92 people and seven companies have already had assets blocked on suspicion of financing or participating in the attacks, totaling R$ 4.3 million.
Last Friday (27), the AGU proposed a third action for the precautionary blocking of assets of 42 investigated. The measure is still awaiting a court decision. According to the AGU, the idea is to file different precautionary actions, avoiding the very large accumulation of defendants in just one case, which could jeopardize the progress of the case.
undemocratic acts
Since President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was elected in the second round, at the end of October, supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro have demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the result of the election and have called for a military coup in the country to overthrow the democratically elected government.
The demonstrations of the last few months included encampments in several general headquarters in the country and culminated with the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília, on January 8th.
