Jury recommends life sentence for Nikolas Cruz, confessed author of the Parkland massacre

Madrid Spain.- Nicholas Cruz, confessed author of the Parkland massacre in 2018, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The jury’s recommendation came after seven hours of deliberations over two days, ending a three-month trial that included graphic videos, photographs and testimonies of the massacre and its aftermath, harrowing testimony from the families of the victims, reported the AP agency.

The twelve members of the jury listened to the arguments of the defense and the prosecution to determine whether Nikolas Cruz should receive the death penalty or life imprisonment.

Although the prosecution had argued that Cruz’s decision to carry out the shooting, in addition to being especially heinous or cruel, was premeditated and calculated and was not, as the defense argued, related to any neurological or intellectual deficit, according to Florida, for the death penalty the jury’s recommendation had to be unanimous.
