The lawyer of Junior LeftJose Carlos Mejia, demanded the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñezshow the conversations he had with his client during 2023 and so far in 2024. The purpose of his request is to compare and prove that the chats verified by the Prosecutor’s Office are real, he explained to La República.
“I invite the Minister of the Interior, Juan Jose Santivañezlet him show it. Just as my client has shown all of his chats, let him show the same chat, let him make his cell phone available, if he has not deleted the conversations, of course. Since he says that what the ‘Cellebrite’ software has done is worthless, let him show his chats and then we can compare the information we already have with the new one. What better than for him to show it himself,” he said.
Along these lines, Junior Izquierdo’s defense stated that “the WhatsApp communication, which was extracted from the two cell phones, is trustworthy, authentic and not adulterated; that is, it is a real conversation.”
In response to what was stated by the lawyer of the head of the Mininter, Carlos Caro Coriawho indicated that the shared documents “are not expert reports on the authenticity of the information” and that “they would correspond solely to the procedure of extracting information and making a mirror copy of what would appear in one or more sources (cell phones).”
Junior Izquierdo’s lawyer: “So far we have not been given permission to testify”
On the other hand, Mejia He publicly denounced that, to date, his client does not have a permit to testify before Congress or the press. This is despite the fact that the head of the Interior has assured that he has requested speed in this process.
“He says that he has instructed his office to provide the facilities to authorize my client to testify. He has been saying this for some time, but up to now it has not happened. This has to be in writing. We have not been notified to go to Congress or to testify before the media. He says and says, but to date we have not received any communication. He has not received any authorization from the Mininter, the PNP or any other entity. All we hear are words and words, but there is nothing written down at the moment,” he noted.
He added: “What I want to urge the General Command of the National Police of Peru “According to the Constitution, when a citizen is summoned to testify by Congress, he has the obligation to attend. It does not say that he has to ask permission from his superiors, from the Minister of the Interior, no, no. No regulation indicates that an officer must ask permission from the minister to go to Congress to testify. Above any law, there is the Political Constitution of Peru. We ask the minister to give my client permission to go to Congress and not be in this limbo. That is what I publicly denounce.”
