Frightening. The Public Ministry reported that the provinces of Huancayo, Chupaca and Jauja are the ones that register the most cases of violence against women and members of the family group. The Warmi Ñan Program has a record of 10 cases of feminicide and nine attempted feminicides in Junín this year. This is a worrying reality, today when the Day of No Violence against Women is commemorated.
“This year 2025, the prosecutor’s offices specialized in the fight against violence against women in the region have attended to 8,193 cases, Huancayo is first, followed by Chupaca and Jauja. What is worrying is the rate of femicides in the region, and many of the victims who are minors and adolescents, who had not gone to the institutions to combat violence,” said prosecutor Brenda Montenegro, district coordinator of the senior prosecutor’s office specialized in violence against women. women in Junín.Likewise, he expressed concern about the delay in compliance with protection measures for victims due to the lack of police officers.
Regarding physical and psychological attacks, he mentioned that they correspond to 87% of cases. He noted that in rural areas, the situation is more complicated, because there are no institutions that receive complaints from people who have been violated.
They decrease. Another concern was that complaints decreased by 400 to 500 fewer cases, mentioned prosecutor Brenda Montenegro, with 40% of complaints that were abandoned by the victims. The decrease is due to the fact that people are not reporting for multiple reasons, many people retract or give up continuing. In cases of assault, a complaint takes 6 to 7 months at most, but sometimes it takes a year to a year and a half and that makes victims give up, because the processes are slow. However, in the cycle of violence, there is also the reconciliation of the victim with their attacker.
BELL. The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, through the National Warmi Ñan Program, carries out the campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, focused this year on the prevention of sexual violence against girls, boys and adolescents. This initiative reinforces the State’s commitment to building safe environments at home, school and public transportation. The campaign “Environments without sexual violence: Observe, listen and act” calls for collective action. Each person, from their role at home, school, transportation and the community, can contribute to preventing violence if they identify warning signs, listen carefully and act following the corresponding channels. The protection of girls, boys and adolescents is a shared responsibility. The Warmi Ñan National Program promotes the active participation of mothers, fathers, caregivers, teachers, transport operators and the community, promoting concrete actions to observe, listen and act against any sign of risk.
The archbishop of Huancayo, Luis Huamán, also spoke out against violence against women and asked to protect women through the work of the institutions.
