Junín officially begins the 2026 electoral process with a draw for more than 33 thousand table members

With the official installation of the Decentralized Offices of Electoral Processes (ODPE), the electoral process for the 2026 General Elections began in the Junín region. In total, there are five ODPEs that operate in the region: Huancayo, El Tambo, Jauja, Tarma and Chanchamayo, where the draw for polling station members who will play a key role on election day was carried out simultaneously.

During the ceremony held at the ODPE Huancayo, the head of this office, Jesús Loayza, specified that the publication of the list of table members will be carried out in the districts and population centers that comprise its jurisdiction. “In all these places we are going to publish the list of table members where they belong”he pointed out.

Within the scope of the ODPE Huancayo, 805 voting tables will be installed distributed in 92 voting locations, mainly educational institutions. These tables will serve a total of 237,900 voters. Considering that each table has nine members (3 regular members and 6 substitutes).

On the other hand, the ODPE Chanchamayo will manage approximately 127 voting locations, with 1,026 voting tables for approximately 292,700 voters; The ODPE El Tambo will have 124 premises, 973 tables and around 281,900 voters; The ODPE Jauja will have 77 premises, 456 tables and approximately 125,700 voters; while the ODPE Tarma will enable 55 premises, 431 tables and will serve some 124,300 voters.

In total throughout the region, more than 33 thousand citizens will fulfill the role of table members, including regulars and substitutes.

Regarding the functions of the polling station members, it was explained that their work is divided into three stages: installation, voting and scrutiny. “The polling station member receives the electoral package, sets up the polling station, verifies the identity of the voter, receives the vote and finally counts and fills out the minutes”it was indicated. The work is collegial, although the president of the table fulfills a role of direction and signing of official documents.

One of the key points is training. The head of the ODPE Huancayo reported that: “Before we did it with 30 days, but now we are doing it with 45 days”he maintained, specifying that there will be in-person and virtual training, in addition to two central sessions scheduled for March 29 and April 5.

Likewise, table members will receive financial compensation of 165 soles, equivalent to 3% of a UIT. “In addition, they are given a snack, not a lunch,” clarified Loayza Aramburú, indicating that the payment will generally be made in less than a week after election day.

Regarding sanctions, it was recalled that the drawn citizens who do not comply with the exercise of the position will be fined 5% of a UIT, that is, approximately 275 soles. Added to this is the fine for failing to vote, which varies depending on the district’s classification: 110 soles in non-poor districts, 55 soles in non-extreme poor and 27.50 soles in extreme poor.

Regarding the period of cross-outs, the president of the Special Electoral Jury of Huancayo, Julio Lagones, explained that it lasts three days. “After the draw, the ODPE publishes the list and citizens or political parties can present objections to the Special Electoral Jury”he indicated, adding that the strikes come only due to impediments established by law, such as family ties with candidates. “Health or work issues are not a fault, but rather applications for exemption that are presented at another stage”he clarified, reaffirming that the entire process seeks to guarantee transparency and legality in the electoral process.
