Junín: Man with a tumor on his face underwent a successful operation at the IREN Centro

A 53-year-old man with skin cancer, whose tumor occupied three quarters of his face, underwent surgery at the Regional Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (IREN Centro), they managed to remove 18 centimeters of cancer that had compromised the nose, eyelids, left eye, depth of nasal mucosa, maxillary frontal sinuses.

The specialist in head, neck and maxillofacial oncological surgery, Jesús Paúl Martínez Arroyo, pointed out that the patient came very late, after spending seven years with the disease. “Skin cancer occurs more frequently at altitude due to exposure to solar radiation. Protection and measures to cover exposed areas are important. It is essential to use wide-brimmed hats, sunscreen, and umbrellas,” said the specialist.

The patient underwent a wide resection of the tumor with safety margins, left orbital exenteration, cervical dissection and reconstruction with a McGregor flap that required more than 5 hours of work and facial reconstruction. The patient’s sister, Milagro Astete, thanked the health personnel, “They are very kind, very good people, for their treatment. We are very grateful to everyone for the way they have helped my brother and how they have treated him.”
