Junín is key in exporting products and generates more than 207 million dollars

The Junín region is going through one of its best moments in terms of foreign trade. According to data from PromPerú’s “Exportemos” platform, regional exports reached US$208 million in the accumulated period from January to October 2025, which represents a growth of 29.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The rebound would confirm a sustained trend after the drop recorded in 2022, according to the platform’s report, and consolidates Junín as a key player in the center of the country. Export growth is mainly led by the mining sector, which concentrates US$ 46,305 million and represents the largest volume by sector. However, the agro-export sector has been progressively gaining ground, with US$200 million, driven by value-added products that have found stable markets in North America and Europe.

In terms of destinations, China remains the main market for Junín mining with US$ 23,029 million, followed by India (US$ 4,726 million), Canada (US$ 3,442 million) and the United Arab Emirates (US$ 2,302 million). In the case of non-traditional products, the United States leads as an agro-export destination, with US$65 million, followed by the Netherlands, Italy and Belgium. The data also show a progressive diversification of the export basket. In the agricultural sector, products such as ginger, cocoa and pineapple are positioned as the main drivers of growth, with increases of up to 60% year-on-year in some markets. Added to these are organic and agro-industrial derivatives that strengthen the regional presence in specialized niches. This dynamism has allowed the number of exporting companies in Junín to increase to 242 in 2025, while the destination markets went from 60 to 65, evidencing a greater capacity for commercial coordination. Likewise, the number of exported items remains stable, reflecting a more efficient specialization of the regional supply. For PromPerú, this growth is not coincidental.

“Of the export figures that we handle each year, close to 80% of that value comes from agroindustrialized products from the Central Jungle”explained regional coordinator Aldo Palomino, who highlighted the role of productive transformation in regional competitiveness.

However, progress is not without challenges. Palomino warned that the next export leap will depend on logistics infrastructure and territorial planning, especially to reduce costs and attract investments.

“It remains to be clearly defined where the industrial part goes, what is an agricultural area and what is an urban area. That is what an entrepreneur reads before investing”held. In this context, Junín appears as a region with high attractiveness for foreign capital, particularly in agroindustry.

“Today, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs already use letters of credit, international financial lines and accounts in foreign banks. That did not happen before”said Palomino, highlighting the financial learning of the local business community. Palomino also pointed out that international companies are already evaluating setting up in the region to process local raw materials.

“If a Chilean company decides to come to the Mantaro Valley to industrialize potatoes, provide employment and move the economy, what would be the problem?”he stated. However, he warned that the arrival of capital will depend on clear rules, formalization and territorial planning that provide confidence to the investor.
