The Regional Institute for Neoplastic Diseases of the Center (IREN Centro) provided lodging and food to Emma Mahuanco Barbosa, from the native community of Paveni, located in the district of Río Tambo, province of Satipo, Junín region, who arrived in Huancayo with her brother who requires medical attention.

The Social Welfare department of the cancer institute arranged for the native family to be admitted to the Casa Refugio, a safe space where Emma Mahuanco, a mother of six children, receives lodging and food, while her brother is hospitalized awaiting surgery.
“IREN Centro not only offers specialized medical care, but also comprehensive support to families, as in Emma’s case, ensuring that they can focus on the well-being of their loved ones while facing difficult situations,” said ME Alexander Chávez Huamaní, general director of IREN Centro.

Emma Mahuanco and her brother spent several months seeking medical attention. According to her account, the patient had been experiencing problems for eight months. They went to the San Francisco-Ayacucho health center, where they did not find the tumor, until they finally arrived at the IREN Centro.
