Junín: IREN Centro performs a heat procedure for the first time to eliminate a liver tumor

For the first time in the region, the IREN Center applied a puncture thermal ablation procedure to eliminate a malignant tumor in the liver of a patient with rectal cancer and liver metastasis, marking an advance in oncological care in the center of the country.

The procedure was carried out by the interventional radiologist Dr. José Velásquez Barbarán, from the Rebagliati Hospital, together with the ME Juan Carlos De la Cruz Rocha, ME Carlos Paré Pérez and the institute’s Interventional Radiology team.

The technique consists of inserting a needle into the tumor and applying controlled heat to destroy the affected cells without the need for open surgery, which reduces risks and speeds up recovery.

The IREN Center pointed out that this type of intervention will expand the therapeutic options for patients with liver injuries and strengthen the resolution capacity of the regional oncology service.
