Junín: Hospitals have a 5 million gap to cover specialists

“In the Junín region, the gap in specialists to be filled amounts to 5 million soles,” said the regional director of Health of Junín, Christian Matamoros. A specialist doctor earns from 8 thousand to 10 thousand soles. And up to 12 thousand soles if he works in remote areas such as Pangoa and Satipo.

The deputy minister of benefits and insurance of the Ministry of Health, Herbert Cuba García, said that training a doctor takes about eight years and then completing his or her specialization takes another three years.

That is why the Minsa is proposing a constitutional reform so that the specialists who currently exist can work in double employment and thus partially solve the gap. So much so that a doctor can work in one hospital and in another health center, with a higher salary.

Another possibility is overtime that can be covered at the same workplace and another state health facility, but this is a budgetary issue that is being sought to be resolved.

UNFILLED. The regional governor of Junín, Zósimo Cárdenas Muje, responded to the Minsa that the gaps in specialists are not being closed, because hiring them is expensive and not very accessible. And despite the fact that they are needed in universities, there are only 15 vacancies, until a general physician is trained.

The lack of specialist doctors is a problem suffered daily by hundreds of patients who cannot get an appointment at the Carrión hospital, where this week they published a list of medical specialties where there was no space this week for Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Cardiovascular CX, Traumatology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Nephrology and Neurology.

Neurosurgery is a service with multiple problems, say the doctors who work there. First, the CT scanner is broken, and the C-arm is also broken. These last two machines are not even from the Carrión hospital, but are loaned by the IREN. In addition, there are craniotomes that no longer work properly.

Regarding the damaged equipment, the Regional Governor of Junín, Zósimo Cárdenas, announced that the C-arm and the CT scanner for the Carrión hospital will be purchased in the second half of October, for which 10 million soles have been allocated. In total there are 3 CT scanners for 3 hospitals such as Pichanaqui and Jauja and each one costs 6 million soles of investment.
