Junín: Catastrophic Agricultural Insurance offers a subsidy of 800 soles per hectare lost

The Catastrophic Agricultural Insurance (SAC), financed by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), aims to reduce the vulnerability of small farmers, especially those in family farming, who face risks caused by natural phenomena such as hail, landslides. , fires, among others. The insurance offers a subsidy of 800 soles per hectare lost, which allows farmers to resume their activities more quickly.

During the 2023-2024 planting campaign, climatic phenomena seriously affected production, resulting in the loss of 144 hectares and affecting a total of 226 hectares of crops. Of these, 84.58 hectares of potatoes, 49 hectares of coffee were affected; while, 64.75 hectares of banana, 25 hectares of cocoa and 20.25 hectares of coffee were lost. To date, Midragri has granted compensation for a total amount of 2,034,515.80 soles, benefiting 2,552 producers.

To access the bonus, farmers must report the damage to the Agrarian Agency of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture, either in person or by telephone, then the insurance company appoints an adjuster to evaluate the damage within the following 15 business days. If the field adjustment determines that the loss is catastrophic, the registers will be compiled and, subsequently, the compensation will be paid, which is made within the following 30 business days.

Co-financed Agricultural Insurance has a limit of 10 hectares per producer, or in the case of livestock activities, up to a maximum of 15 Tax Tax Units (UIT). The State covers 80% of the cost of insurance, providing crucial support to farmers who have obtained a bank loan to finance their agricultural activities.
