Julita Osendi: There is nothing to celebrate this May Day

HAVANA, Cuba.- One of the most respected voices in Cuban sports journalism, Julita Osendi, has published a post on her Facebook wall where she recalls how May Day was celebrated in Cuba in other times, bringing up the current situation on the Island, where this year the Government has been forced to suspend the traditional parade, presumably due to lack of fuel.

The reporterKnown for her admiration for Fidel Castro and for dedicating each sporting victory to the “top leader” and his Revolution, she indulged in nostalgia, recalling that May Day “was a date synonymous with joy, life, and prosperity,” and that “in good times and in bad, Cubans paraded and there was always hope for a better future.”

Suddenly, the tone of his post changes and becomes a critique of the terrible political, social and economic situation that is punishing Cubans, from the massive exodus that has torn more than a quarter of a million of their children from Cuba, to the most recent contraction of the basket Basic, what have you seen? disappear the chicken quota to be replaced by mortadella or picadillo.

“Even the sad chicken that was barely enough (…) they took it from us. From the famous “package” that they sell us, very expensive, by the way, they already took a bottle of oil from the two initials (…) For the basic basket, they will only sell the few eggs that are not enough for a week and mincemeat? and bologna inedible, disgusting, that not even my cat wants to eat ”, he pointed out.

The journalist extended her criticism of the health system, where there are not even resources to treat a fracture, and the exorbitant prices of Mipymes, inaccessible to those who depend exclusively on a salary or a pension.

“What this government wants is for us not to eat; however, they are fatter every day, rosy. Their buttons pop,” she stressed.

Julita Osendi also recounts the anguish of a mother and the discomfort that is perceived everywhere.

“There is not a person that I meet, except for a few hypocrites or stupid, who does not speak the same thing. So, what are we going to celebrate? ”, Questioned the journalist, whose post ended with the bitter acknowledgment of having made a mistake and dedicated her life to a lie.

“You know? I am tired and sad, very much, to have been so wrong, ”she admitted.

Dozens of netizens responded to her post with empathy, although there was no shortage of those who reproached the reporter for her Fidelista and revolutionary past.
