As part of the celebrations for São Paulo’s anniversary, celebrated this Saturday (25), the Júlio Prestes Cultural Complex inaugurates a new space dedicated to culture. The CCR das Artes Station will be a new cultural facility in the city, with a room for shows and events operating within the complex, which already includes the Sala São Paulo.
With capacity to accommodate 543 people, the concert hall is the result of a partnership between the Osesp Foundation (São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra) and the government of São Paulo and the Ministry of Culture, through the Federal Culture Incentive Law. Furthermore, the CCR Institute participates in the partnership through the Rouanet Law.
“The CCR das Artes Station project demonstrates how collaboration between public authorities, cultural organizations and the private sector is fundamental to boosting culture and transforming the city. Partnerships like this are essential for the revitalization of the center of São Paulo and to expand access to culture, offering quality spaces for the population and promoting a positive impact, both cultural and economic”, said Marília Morton, Secretary of Culture, Economy and Industry Creative.
Estação CCR das Artes will occupy the old concourse of Estação Júlio Prestes, which still preserves its original architecture, with colorful stained glass windows from the traditional Casa Conrado and three imposing chandeliers. The architectural project for the city’s new cultural equipment was designed by the firm Dupré Arquitetura.
“CCR das Artes Station, located in the Júlio Prestes Cultural Complex, in the center of São Paulo, is a new venue for shows and events that integrates urban mobility and culture. Conceived as a point of convergence between the daily lives of millions of people and access to art, the station aims to democratize access to culture, form new audiences and expand the reach of various artistic manifestations”, said Renata Ruggiero, president of the CCR Institute , in an interview with Brazil Agency.
Opening show
To open the room, the show will be presented The Arts at the Stationwhose theme is encounters and disagreements at train stations and which combines popular and classical music, dance, poetry and circus. The performance will be free, but tickets are already sold out.
The show will feature the singer Virgínia Rosa, from the São Paulo Companhia de Dança, the Osesp Academic Choir, a String Quartet formed by Osesp musicians, the accordionist Toninho Ferragutti, an ensemble from the São Paulo Big Band, the pianist Juliana Ripke and the Mundo do Circo company.
The show will be packed with music and poems by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento, Francisco Mignone, Chico Buarque, Adoniran Barbosa and Oswald de Andrade.
“The imaginary train — derailed from the track of obvious, narrow and tortuous paths — now belongs to all the performing arts. The destination of these many trips, sometimes challenging and abrupt, sometimes calm and planned, is now the season of dance, music, theater and cinema. The important thing for us is that it is the destination of the arts, of diversity, of so much history and memory, and so much future. The idea is to share and promote the co-creation of artistic movements, with our culture and with what São Paulo symbolizes: innovation”, explained Marcelo Lopes, executive director of Fundação Osesp and responsible for the artistic conception of the show.
Throughout the year, the space should host different artistic expressions, as well as educational and sociocultural activities. “CCR das Artes Station will have diverse programming that includes classical and popular music, dance, theater, literature, cinema and educational initiatives. With a flexible structure, the space was designed to accommodate different formats of shows and events, with an audience of up to 543 people and a 160 m² stage, both modular. Additionally, the program will be carefully crafted to make culture more accessible and inclusive, with tickets available via website from Sala São Paulo.
The official schedule of events aimed at the public will be released soon”, said the president of the CCR Institute.
