na video recording Posting on social networks that gave an account of very worrying events, but not exactly those that were immediately attributed to him (the execution of 17 people), concentrated the daily anguish that the country experiences due to the overflow of criminal violence and the ineffectiveness of government measures (federal and state) to contain it.
As is the case in the polarized times in Mexico, a very active portion of opponents of President López Obrador’s policies took advantage of the circumstances to try to fit them into the current electoral account. With internet insistence they fought to impose the version of the execution and the high number of dead, without there being a single proof of such affirmations then, nor at the time of writing these lines. That is to say, the method and the amount could be certain, but until this Monday night there was not a single firm handle to postulate them.
That does not, however, detract from the substance of the matter: in San José de Gracia, head of the municipality of Marcos Castellanos (a priest linked to the national independence movement), in Michoacán, an armed group placed several people with their hands in their neck and with his back to the wall, after which, according to the only specific video, a shootout broke out at the end of which several bodies would have been left lying, although in the reference recording such deceased could never be seen nor the moment of the alleged execution , according to the term that ran through almost all media newsrooms.
Virtually all versions suggest that it was the fulfillment of an exile order given by a group (the Jalisco cartel New generation) against a former ally who later went to another faction and was therefore warned that setting foot in San José de Gracia would be executedwhich happened when that character attended, accompanied by bodyguards, his mother’s wake.
The event caused more astonishment when it was learned that when, late as usual, the federal and state authorities appeared at the scene, it had already been cleaned
and there was not a single human body riddled with bullets, although there were some remains. The President of the Republic himself reported in his morning press conference such details, which usually correspond to the removal of bodies by aggressors or attacked, according to the decisions of the respective heads of the criminal groups.
Subject to whether or not there was a shooting and how many would have been killed there, the episode shows the daily national tragedy, the institutional breakdown, the ineffectiveness of the presidential plans to give hugs and not bullets, the insufficiency of extending welfare benefits to certain social segments in order to reduce their incorporation into the cartels and the disproportion between military empowerment in other areas and neglect or non-compliance with regard to organized crime.
Michoacán, with San José de Gracia as an example, is proof of the failure of policies and politicians to confront the issues of drug trafficking and organized crime. Cardenistas, PRD members and now Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla from Moreno (with only months in office) have governed the entity, with a tragic balance, always with that criminal factor associated with campaigns, candidacies and public power. The municipal presidencies are downcast before silver or lead, almost always preferring the former.
And in Los Pinos (especially starting with Felipe Calderón, then with Enrique Peña Nieto) there was also no detachment from political power with respect to the confessed criminal. For his part, the now president López Obrador promised in the campaign a forceful turn in the matter and has not achieved more than some almost Byzantine discussions regarding the statistics of the decrease in some criminal items. Until tomorrow!
