El Chapito’s version traitor, who tricked the seasoned Mayo and allowed the voluntary arrival by air of two precious pieces to the United States, suits both countries involved: the neighbor because it evades responsibility in the verbal and physical maneuvers carried out in foreign territory, by attributing everything to quarrels, infidelities and vileness between individuals that ended up landing in Texas, and Mexico because it also evades responsibility, by stating that it had no participation whatsoever in what happened on its soil and that it has no more precise knowledge than that which its own neighbor is providing.

In this unusual field of cultivation, versions and speculations multiply: from those that speak of a violent kidnapping that the young mini-capo would have committed against the aging capo, accompanied by armed people and in military uniforms (even with the presence of alleged US agents, according to some accounts), to those that suppose secret agreements to give electoral tribute to Biden-Harris, or those that believe they can guess fiery intentions of the neighboring empire against Mexican politicians, drug traffickers and rulers (some predict actions against Calderón; others, against López Obrador).

There is nothing firm so far, other than the transfer of assets from the big national business to American accounts, with multiple possible intentions and the expectation of confrontations between criminal groups (if there really were betrayals).

On the other hand, while attention has been focused on the two air travelers who strangely arrived in the United States, less attention has been paid to the also mysterious case of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, the controversial Sinaloa politician executed in Culiacán hours after the arrival at a Texas airport of Ismael Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López.

The official version of the Sinaloa prosecutor’s office speaks of an attempted robbery of the van in which Cuén Ojeda was traveling, accompanied by the son of the current president of the local party that Héctor Melesio founded and controlled, the Sinaloense. According to what was released by the aforementioned prosecutor’s office as a statement from the companion, at a gas station a couple of assailants asked for the keys to the vehicle and, when Cuén refused and in the middle of a struggle, he was shot in the legs and, bleeding to death, died in a hospital shortly after.

According to these first official versions, the character, who was the most bitter political adversary of the current Morena governor, Rubén Rocha Moya, had spent hours in a rural farm north of Culiacán waiting for some lawyers, who never arrived, with whom he was going to discuss certain matters. Journalists Ian Grillo and Juan Alberto Cedillo, for their part, published yesterday the details that an informant, who remained anonymous, had told them. Among them, that El Mayo Zambada, with the purpose of kidnapping him and taking him to the United States, had been summoned to a meeting in which El Chapito Joaquín and the aforementioned Cuén Ojeda would be present.

At the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, where he had been rector, the murdered man was considered a cacique, according to Rocha Moya’s own definition, who nevertheless incorporated him as an ally in his campaign for the state governorship and later awarded him the Ministry of Health, which he later, in open political conflict, withdrew from him. Cuén Ojeda was the municipal president of Culiacán and, on behalf of the PRI, he was going to arrive in San Lázaro, where, according to those close to him, he was going to be a powerful voice of denunciation of the bad government of Rocha Moya.

And, while the outgoing President and the incoming President have met with relatives, lawyers and human rights defenders of the Ayotzinapa case, without any major progress being made public, everything trapped between (renewed) promises and (failing) hopes, until tomorrow!
