Julieta Gélvez: the racing driver who dreams of being the best nationally

Spontaneous, noble and with the joy that characterizes her, this talented Argentinian knows that when a door closes, you don’t have to lower your arms, but trust that sooner or later things will happen, well, like the same Juliet Gelvez account, his life is motorsport.

Although he does not come from a family linked to the profession, Since she was little, she was always characterized by being very restless, curious and passionate about sports.so perhaps, although at that time he did not know that this would be his career, he was clear that it would be linked to physical activity.

Also, from a very young age, he showed an interest in auto mechanics, as he helped his father to fix a stubble they had at home. It was at the age of 12 that Juliet he met what has been his dream, his life and his passion ever since: motor racing.

After going to the racetrack to watch a competition, the pilot became interested in the sport and wanted to learn more about it: she began to watch races to learn about it. Then, at the age of 15, she discovered karting, and it was her when she said to herself: “This has to be for me”.

At that time, he was in high school, swimming and doing gymnastics, but there was only one thing on his mind: becoming a karting driver; it was like that At the age of 16, he began selling hot dogs to raise money to buy his first kart..

Juliet He confesses that what he is most passionate about in this sport is the whole process that is behind it as well as during the race itself, which also involves a great team that is dedicated to ensuring that the driver can give his best in each competition.

Although he was introduced to karting at 16, he debuted as a driver at 18 in Mendoza, initially in the over-15, four-stroke category. Thanks to this, he verified not only that he was capable of competing, but also made him fall more in love with the sport.

At the same time that he began to compete, he also began to study, to learn more about auto mechanics, and to work in a workshop. In Mendoza he managed to compete for three years in the category over 15, then he went to the “thoroughbred” category, which is much more demanding.

In the midst of her preparation as a driver and competitions, she was presented with the possibility of participating in the “Motor Challenge” program, which led her to move to the city of Buenos Aires and debut in karting there.

Although she is not currently involved in a championship as such, she does participate in many races as a guest driver in different locations in the country and in different karting categories. She is also dedicated to training other pilots and mechanics.

Even though her career is just beginning and she has hundreds of kilometers to cover and milestones to cross, she admits in a dialogue for this newspaper that what she remembers most from when she started is that “she was a little crazy”, since she got involved in a sport that, in addition to being demanding, is represented mostly by men; but He also knows that without that “madness” he would not be where he is today..

It is precisely thanks to that stubbornness and perseverance that characterize her that she does not give up on achieving her dreams, because along the way she has had to knock on thousands of doors, many of which have been closed to her, and despite the fact that this is her greatest challenge today. , his faith and passion remain intact.

For this reason, he considers that one of his greatest achievements has been to debut in competitions at the national level and to be able to dedicate himself more fully to motorsports, because, to finance his career, which he mostly self-manages, he has had to work temporarily in other areas. to be able to save and thus gradually achieve each of their goals.

What’s coming for 2023

Even though her national debut is something that fills her with satisfaction, she also recognizes that at the competition level there are many pressures, since they are more demanding races. Therefore, he constantly prepares for it, so he is at the level of his opponents but, above all, to reach a better position every day.

the pilot he confesses that every achievement he has achieved has first been projected in his head. This is how he has managed to run in important competitions such as the Top Race Junior and the Abarth Argentina Cup.

She also managed to be part of the Vitarti Girl’s Team, a motorsport team made up only of women from the national territory, which gave her more experience and allowed her to share with other great motorsport professionals.

Despite the fact that on many occasions he has had to put aside the races due to lack of sponsorship, this year managed to compete in the SpeedAgro Racing League and completed the entire Abarth Argentina Cup in the category that accompanies national tourism, where it was always in the top 10.

All this experience has allowed the Mendoza woman to prepare for what 2023 will be like, as a year full of many projects is coming for her, for which she is working both mentally and physically (it is a sport that, in addition to being very complex, involves all the senses).

During 2023 it will continue to compete in the Abarth Argentina Cup, which will begin with the preseason in January; she will also be part of the RAC, a pilot school where they will prepare her to give her best in each competition, something that has her very motivated.

She also plans to be an instructor and spend more time at the racetrack, either inside a race car or preparing for her upcoming competitions. Additionally, she projects from now on, as in every dream that she has achieved, that next year I can be in the TC2000, a speed motorsport championship that is disputed with touring cars.

Although 2023 comes loaded with new projects, the biggest dream of Juliet it is being able to run nationally and, as she herself says: “Being able to travel all over the country to continue meeting people” that helps her to be better, teaches her to work as a team and motivates her to go further.

That is why she knows that to achieve this she must, first, always believe in herself, work hard (as she has always done) and give her best as a professional so that one day, not too far away, her name will resonate among the best in motorsport. nationally and internationally, a dream that we will undoubtedly see her achieve.
