Fierro was an astronomer from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a great disseminator of science.
She was born in Mexico City in 1948. She was a starter researcher of the Institute of Astronomy of the UNAM and professor at the Faculty of Sciences. She also performed as director of the General Directorate of Dissemination of Science in the same house of studies between 2002 and 2004.
He occupied the XXV chair of the Mexican Academy of Language and was a member of the National System of Researchers at the highest level.
His work covered collaboration for exhibitions in museums, the writing of several books and articles and their participation in different conferences.
During his career he received several awards, including the Unesco Kalinga Awards. It was also recognized by the Academy of Sciences of the World and with the Merit Medal in Science 2021 “Engineer Mario Molina”.
She was distinguished with four Honoris Causa doctorates and in 2023 she entered the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as an honorary member.
UNAM regretted the death of Fierro through a message on social networks.
“With his voice and dedication he approached science to several generations, leaving a legacy that transcends borders and time,” he published.
