Judo with Bernabé Vergara and the Artistic Gymnastics team gave Panama its first medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games El Salvador 2023.
Vergara in the men’s 60 kilograms defeated Milko Obregón from Cuba in the bout for the bronze medal by way of the Ippon to give Panama its first medal of these games, the Panamanian judoka in his first bout lost to Iván Salas from Venezuela and then in the repechage he defeated Johan Rojas to reach the final for bronze, winning over the Cuban Obregón.
While the women’s Artistic Gymnastics team made history by winning the silver medal in the team event where Karla Navas, Lucía Paulino, Valentina Brostella, Lana Herrera and Hillary Heron participated.
With these results, the Panamanian delegation remains in tenth position in the medal table of the Central American and Caribbean Games.
