Judith Rodríguez was proclaimed champion of the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, in épée, in what is the best result of Spanish Paralympic fencing in the last twelve years. In the first round, the Galician athlete recorded four wins and one loss and passed the group stage in which she was paired with the British Gemma Collis, the Thai Duean Nakprasit, the French Brianna Vide, the Brazilian Rudineia Manica and the South Korean Hyo Kyeong Kwon.
In the elimination rounds, she first beat the Brazilian Carminha Oliveira (15-5) and then the South Korean Seung Ri Shin (15-11), before getting rid of the British Gemma Collis (15-9) in the semifinals. In the final he beat Hyo Kyeong Kwon (15-13). Judith Rodríguez’s triumph in Sao Paulo represents the best result at the international level in Paralympic fencing in the last eleven years.
