This afternoon, the Judiciary ordered the immediate release of Iván Quispe Palomino, who was presented this week as a leader of the Shining Path, according to Interior Minister Juan José Santiváñez.
The Superior Court indicated that the defendant’s name is Demetrio Quispe Palomino. The Police, who captured Iván, made an identification error.

Iván Quispe’s daughter-in-law pointed out that since Wednesday her family did not know where he was detained.
“No one has given us an answer (where he was detained),” he said.

Regarding the medical examiner’s examinations, which said that Iván Quispe did not have part of the phalanx of his left hand, the wife responded that he has all his fingers complete, and that he moves his hand normally.
“Everything that has been said has been slander,” he said.
THE CASE
As recalled, last Wednesday, the head of the Interior assured that the captured Iván Quispe Palomino was an important Shining Path leader, when he is no longer one.
On that day, the minister announced with great fanfare, in the morning hours, on TVPerú, that the Police had captured Iván Quispe Palomino, nothing more and nothing less than “second command of the Communist Party of Peru Sendero Luminoso” in the Vraem.
“It is extremely important for me to inform Peru of this,” he said between the rush and the need to have a media victory against the advance of crime in the country.
He also dared to attribute the capture to the “success” of the state of emergency, since he was arrested in San Juan de Lurigancho. But what Juan José Santiváñez did not realize was that nothing he had said was true.
On the other hand, as a corollary to this story, Iván Quispe’s relatives have declared to the media that they plan to denounce the head of the Interior for the mistake committed against him.
“We are going to go to the final consequences, until he retracts it,” said his political daughter on Channel N.
