The Judiciary ordered nine months of house arrest against the rector of the National University of Piura (UNP), Santos Montaño Roalcaba, who was being investigated for the alleged crime of extortion.
The sentence also provides for the payment of 100 thousand soles, which must be paid within 10 business days.
As you may recall, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested this opinion alleging that Montaño Roalcaba is over 65 years old and has an incurable disease.
It is worth mentioning that the rector of the UNP was charged with the crime of extortion after it was discovered that he received a bribe of more than 10 thousand soles from a supplier.
According to a report broadcast by ‘Cuarto Poder’, Montaño and his advisor held a meeting with a person from whom they requested a “direct deal without intermediaries.” In the recording, the person recording the moment mentions that the money delivered corresponds to services provided to the UNP.
The same report also revealed that Montaño boasted of having influence in appointing the authorities of the National Superintendence of Higher University Education (Sunedu).
UNP advisor and manager accept the crime
The advisor to the rector of the National University of Piura (UNP) and the general director of Administration of said university accepted the crime in the case of the bribe of 10,000 soles that the rector Santos Montaño Roalcaba allegedly received. Both appeared voluntarily in the process and submitted to early termination.
Juan Ademir Nima Villaseca, advisor to the rector, and Fátima Yanet Sandoval Oliva, general manager of Administration at UNP, assumed responsibility for the events and signed the provisional agreement for early termination.
This happened after learning that there was a preliminary arrest warrant against both people.
After signing the early termination, the arrest warrant was changed to appearance with restrictions for the two involved and the payment of a financial guarantee of 20,000 soles each, including the rector Santos Montaño Roalcaba.
It should be noted that they were involved in the case where the rector of the UNP Santos Montaño Roalcaba was recorded on video receiving 10,000 soles from Gabriel Avelino Ojeda Reyes, father of businesswoman Adriana Alexa Ojeda Gutiérrez.
Since then, Nima Villaseca and Sandoval Oliva were fugitives until yesterday, Monday, when they appeared at the trial and submitted to the legal proceedings.
