The Judiciary has made the election of the judge official Janet Ofelia Lourdes Tello Gilardi as president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic and Judiciary for the period 2025-2026. The decision was made by the Plenary Chamber of the Supreme Court during its Sixteenth Extraordinary Sessionheld on December 5, 2024, where a secret, direct and universal vote was carried out among the titular supreme judges.
In accordance with article 74 of the Single Ordered Text of the Organic Law of the Judiciary, the president of the Supreme Court is elected for a period of two years from among the members of the Plenary Chamber. On this occasion, Tello Gilardi was selected by a majority in the first round, which highlights the support of her colleagues in this important position.
The magistrate will officially assume her duties on the first working day of 2025, marking a new chapter in the administration of justice in the country. With this choice, Janet Tello Gilardi becomes the second woman in command of the presidency of the Peruvian judicial system.

Janet Tello Gilardi is a judge with more than 40 years of experience in the judicial system. During his time at the Superior Court of Justice of Limahas developed a humanistic and professional approach focused on the defense of human rightsgender equality, social inclusion and access to justice for all citizens, without distinction.
She was one of the creators of the Association of Judges for Justice and Democracy, an organization that was established in the 90s with the aim of protecting judicial independence and the autonomy of judges, in the face of attempts by political power to undermine them.
The doctor in Law and Political Science from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), Janet Tello Gilardi, also has a master’s degree in Law with specialization in Jurisdictional Policy from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP).

In terms of his professional career, Tello Gilardi has played significant roles, as a member of the Executive Council of the Judiciary (PJ), as well as the Gender Justice Commission and the Access to Justice Commission for Vulnerable Populations of the PJ. Before being elected as the highest judicial authority, she held the position of president of the First Temporary Constitutional and Social Law Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Republic.
In the Supreme Court, Tello Gilardi has promoted the realization of decentralized audiences in different regions of the country, outside of Lima. In the Constitutional Chamberpromoted the issuance of “source rulings”, which allow multiple similar processes to be evaluated and resolved in a single decision and in a reduced time.
