This case dates back to 1984, when the host of Radio Huanta 2000, founder of the National Association of Journalists (ANP) at Huanta headquarters and correspondent of the newspaper La República, disappeared at a Peruvian Navy base after denouncing the massacre in the Callqui Presbyterian Church.
The oral trial, as reported by the Legal Defense Institute (IDL), began in March 2022 in the National Temporary Liquidation Criminal Chamber of the National Specialized Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Miluska Cano.
The defendants are Alberto Rivera Valdevellano and Augusto Gavilondo García del Barco, also a Navy soldier, who must be extradited from Spain. The decision on the first was made publicly. However, the ruling on the second was declared reserved.
