Judicial Power orders to lift the banking secrecy of Jorge del Castillo, Luis Alva, Luciana León and APRA

He Judiciarythrough the preparatory investigation judge Richard Concepción Carhuanchoordered to lift the banking secrecy of the Peruvian Aprista Party (APRA) due to the investigation that the political group is facing for the alleged contribution of the Odebrecht company to the presidential campaign of Alan Garcia in 2006.

The tax decision includes former congressmen Jorge del Castillo and Luciana León, as well as Luis Alva Castro, Hernán Garrido-Lecca, Mercedes Cabanillas, César Zuaeta, Luis Gasco Bravo and Franklin Chávez Montenegro.

The Public Ministry is investigating party figures for the alleged crimes of illicit association to commit a crime and money laundering.

The bank secret survey will be in force from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2016. In this way, the Prosecutor’s Office will be able to access the bank accounts of those investigated, account statements and savings, national and foreign transfers or any financial activity that contributes to the investigation.

The resolution of the Judiciary also details the statement of the former superintendent of Odebrecht in Peru, Jorge Barata, in which he indicates that he paid the $200,000 to the 2006 presidential campaign, the year in which former president Alan García was elected.

“Approaches with company officials Odebrecht are corroborated with the migratory movements of Luis Alva Castro, Alan García Pérez, Jorge Barata in the Republic of Brazil and the visits to the Government Palace by him on different dates when the deceased Alan García Pérez was president of the Republic,” the document reads.

Jorge del Castillo speaks out

During an interview on Canal N, the Senate candidate, Jorge del Castillo, recalled that campaign contributions are not a crime when mentioning the ruling of the Constitutional Court (TC) in the framework of the investigations of the Cocktails case.

Along the same lines, Del Castillo assured that there is “a political direction” regarding the decision of the Judiciary a few months before the 2026 elections.

Likewise, the former congressman assured that he should not be included in the judicial decision because, having been a parliamentarian, he has a political pretrial.
