Mariana González, daughter of the leader opposition politician Edmundo González Urrutiarevealed this Wednesday that the Venezuelan justice system imposed restrictions on her husband Rafael Tudares, after his release last week. According to her, a court prohibited her from leaving the country and prevented her from speaking to the media, all in “faithful compliance with the substitute precautionary measure” that was imposed on her after leaving prison.
Through a message on your X account, Gonzalez He stressed that they are prevented from offering testimonies or information related to the Tudares case.
“We cannot provide statements to the media, nor share any information about any aspect related to your case,” he wrote.
In turn, he explained that the judicial decision includes several limitations that Tudares must respect: “regime of periodic presentations, prohibition of leaving the country and ‘prohibition of giving statements to the media, as well as carrying out any type of public communication in the press, radio, television and any other electronic media’.”
“Thank you for your respect, understanding and empathy for what we are communicating here, in order to comply, as we should, with the judicial measures that have been established for Rafael,” he added.
Tudares released from prison after serving 380 days of unjust detention and facing what his wife described as “an inhumane situation of forced disappearance.”
Tudares’ arrest dates back to January 7, 2025—three days before Nicolás Maduro began a third term.
In December, the court sentenced him to 30 years in prison on charges of conspiracy and terrorism, a sentence that generated rejection among human rights organizations and opposition sectors. His critics maintain that the conviction is politically motivated, given that Tudares is the son-in-law of González Urrutia, exiled in Spain and who maintains that he won the July 2024 presidential elections in Venezuela.
