Judicial electoral process begins in CDMX

Judicial electoral process begins in CDMX

The presiding counselor, Patricia Avendaño Durán, stressed that the election of the local Judiciary will be much larger than the last electoral process and must be organized in significantly less time.

He pointed out that the IECM will face unknown situations, coupled with the fact that it will organize in parallel the Participatory Budget Consultation, which will be held in August, although many of its activities begin in January.

“I am certain that this institution is capable of facing this complex scenario, because the Electoral Institute of Mexico City is going to comply once again with the society of this capital. “Citizens can rest assured, with the guarantee that we will move forward with this important electoral process, that we will take care of the principles that have guided our actions, making use of the accumulated experience,” he stated.

The electoral counselor, Cecilia Hernández, emphasized that the organization of the election of the Judicial Branch has notable differences with respect to the elections to renew the head of government, the local Congress and the mayors.

He observed that the implementation of multiple voting is planned, which implies challenges in the design of the ballots and intense institutional campaigns so that citizens know how to cast their vote.

The counselor announced that the counting of votes will be carried out from the district headquarters, which implies an exhaustive dynamic, with hard work in terms of information and training.

“We will act with absolute responsibility in the exercise of resources to guarantee that the election is carried out with high standards to which the citizens of the capital have already become accustomed. Have confidence in the Electoral Institute of Mexico City. Despite the challenge that this extraordinary electoral process represents, I assure you that we will put our experience, knowledge and skills at the service of democracy,” he said.

The electoral counselor María de los Ángeles Gil Sánchez specified that, as of this Thursday, the IECM has a record time of five months and five days to organize the election that will be held on June 1, so the promotion of the vote will be a priority in the face of such short deadlines.

“Even with budget resources below what was planned and requested, we will execute the powers that the Legislature deposited in this Institute,” he stated.

The electoral advisor, Ernesto Ramos Mega explained that it will be necessary to print the largest number of ballots that have been produced for any election, since the five members of the Judicial Disciplinary Court will be elected, at least 25% of judges, 40% of the magistracies, as well as the titles of courts and tribunals that are vacant.

Key dates:

December 30: deadline for issuing the Call.

February 12: deadline to receive the lists of applications sent by Congress

June 1: Election Day.

“We have a particularly complex scenario in the Electoral Institute of Mexico City, but I am sure that we will address it successfully and giving quality and democratic results for citizens,” Ramos confided.
