Judicial Branch workers march in CDMX; morenistas celebrate reform

This low attendance occurs after last November 5 the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) rejected the project that proposed invalidating certain aspects of the reform, such as the election of judges and magistrates, proposed by Minister Luis González Alcántara Carrancá.

The Supreme Court review was one of the last instances that sought to reverse the reform. The first election to fill the positions of 881 judges and ministers was planned for June 1, 2025.

Similar mobilizations were carried out in other parts of the country, such as Veracruz and Jalisco.

Meanwhile, governors, legislators and officials of Morenoist extraction held assemblies to promote and celebrate the reform of the Judicial Branch, in entities such as Puebla, Veracruz, Colima, Sonora, Baja California Sur and Oaxaca.

“The right is writhing in the face of the democratization process that is deepening in our country. (…) (Mexico is) the only place in the world where all the people (of the Judiciary) will be elected by universal, secret and direct vote,” said the president of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, when attending an assembly in Puebla.
