The president of the National Superior Court of Criminal Justice, César Sahuanay, specified that the Third Collegiate Criminal Court will take charge of the process, made up of judges Nayko Coronado, Raúl Caballero and Max Vengoa.
The court will define in the coming weeks the start date of the oral trial to the former president (2011-16) and the other defendants, including the mother, a brother and a childhood friend of Nadine Heredia.
On the 19th, the head of the First Criminal Preparatory Investigation Court gave the green light to the prosecution of the case and issued an indictment against the accused.
Humala and his wife are accused of receiving funds for electoral purposes, from the Brazilian company Odebrecht, which it has acknowledged before the Prosecutor’s Office, but the ex-president flatly denies it.
Both were held in preventive detention for 18 months in July 2018, but a Constitutional Court ruling annulled the measure and released them after they had been in prison for nine months.
