Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley will announce this Thursday if he orders preventive detention against the former president Pedro Castillo and his former ministers Juan Silva and Geiner Alvarado, accused of forming a criminal organization.
The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Castillo of having led that network to distribute millionaire works and public positions in the ministries of Housing and Transportation, and from Petroperú.
The Public Ministry estimated, as Peru21 advancedthat the penalty to fall on the former president would be 31 years and 4 months in prison.
The Chotano professor, who is serving 18 months in prison for perpetrating the coup on December 7, 2022, intervened at the end of the procedure and reiterated that he had not been part of a criminal network.
“I flatly and categorically deny that I am the author and I am part of a criminal network, the only crime I committed was serving my country as President of the Republic and I have not had two ministers but many ministers, and these, in order to carry out their duties, have had to receive the vote of confidence from Congress,” he said.
Castillo Terrones insisted that “I did not steal a penny from the country” and asked Judge Checkley to reject the request of Supreme Prosecutor Helder Terán.
“Today a castle of crimes has been built with assumptions, with “would have”, “would have”, “supposedly”, with collaborators bought and they are going to request 36 months of preventive detention, I am going to reach one hundred days unjustly kidnapped”, he alleged.
Terán points out in his investigation that the fugitive Juan Silva and Geiner Alvarado served the interests of the ex-governor to direct public projects.
