The intervention made by the Governor of Santa Cruz lasted less than seven minutes, Luis Fernando Camacho, during his hearing this Thursday; It had to conclude hastily, because the member Rosmery Lourdes Pabón Chávez interrupted, on two occasions, the material defense that she had granted to the Governor, when he began the account of what happened in 2019.

“I was part of a historic struggle of the people; I was part of that fight for democracy with a scandalous fraud carried out by Evo Morales himself”, Camacho stated, when the judge closed the microphone. “Keep in mind what was expressed by the processed party”, cut, and immediately unleashed the protest of the defense lawyers and those attending the virtual hearing.

This Thursday the appeal hearing was held raised by Camacho’s defense. After more than six hours of listening to the parties, the vocal Pabón decided to grant the defendant material defense and he gave a brief account of what had happened since 2020 and when he began to explain why his actions in 2019, the judge cut him off.

for three minutes, lawyers, prosecutors, members and the public got involved in a discussion about whether or not Governor Camacho should continue with his address. “He cannot restrict his right to speak,” the lawyer claimed to the vocal. “You are being given the floor in the information channel, for which it is recommended that you be specific, since the defendant’s defense has been clear in its foundations of the grievances,” Pabón replied.

After that crisis in the courtroom, the vowel granted the floor again to Camacho, but this he said it was a pity he couldn’t express everything he had to say: “With what you tell me, there is little that I can contribute, because unfortunately I cannot express myself as I would like,” the Santa Cruz authority told him.

The judge interrupted the material defense on two occasions that the defendant made, the first was at the beginning of his speech when he began by criticizing the accusations made against him by the Prosecutor’s Office.

“First of all, clarify that at no time did my person make fun of anyone; regret the circus that this government has put together, really put together a movie, they talk about every atrocity”, said Camacho and was interrupted by the vowel, who asked him to be “specific” and reminded him that his defense had already exhausted the legal arguments.

So the Governor He gave an account of the three times he was quoted to testify, and indicated that, on all three occasions, it was the Prosecutor’s Office itself that postponed their appearance. He said that the complaint was filed in 2020, when he was not even a candidate for Governor.

He then explained that in the middle of the electoral campaign, It was the MAS candidate himself, Mario Cronenbold, who requested that his statement not be taken because it was an indirect campaign.

He also remembered that July 12 last year he requested a license from the National Council of Autonomies to appear to testify and that, at the last moment, they informed him that the call had also been suspended; Therefore, he said, he is not responsible for the suspension of public prosecutor’s calls.
