In the afternoon of this December 16, the Third Criminal Judge of the Circuit with Knowledge Function of Bogotá sanctioned the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillowith a three-day arrest and a fine of three minimum wagesas confirmed by ‘Noticias Caracol’.
According to the news, this is because The portfolio would not have complied with the order given by the Constitutional Court in Ruling T-343 of 2022 to suspend the marketing of pesticides with the chlorpyrifos component and the failure to support the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) in a transition towards alternative products.

It is worth mentioning that in the order issued by the Court, two years ago, a “maximum period of six months, for the necessary administrative measures to be adopted to definitively eliminate the use of chlorpyrifos”.
The judge, in his decision, also ordered copies to be sent to the Attorney General’s Office “to investigate the crimes that he may have incurred in his capacity as Minister of Health by failing to comply with the order issued by the Constitutional Court“.

Likewise, he gave a warning to Minister Jaramillo: “The sanctioning power of the State will be exercised as many times as objective and subjective responsibility is proven in non-compliance with what is ordered, so that it is not exempt from demonstrating compliance with the ruling.“.
