Judge Juan Merchán, who is leading the legal proceedings against former President Trump in Manhattan, has received multiple threats since his arrest.
In the lead up to and after the arraignment, the former president said he was a “judge who hates Trump.”
At the arraignment, Merchán warned Trump that he should “refrain” from social media posts that could incite violence.
But after the trial, Trump continued to attack Merchán and other actors in a speech he gave Tuesday night after returning from New York. He reiterated that he was a “Trump-hating judge” and criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who called for a grand jury to approve the charges against Trump.
According to reports, Merchán and his family have received multiple threats during the 24 hours after the hearing, as have Bragg and other senior officials from the prosecutor’s office. Threats come from calls, emails and letters.
The court officials are increasing the security of Merchán and the court. NYPD officers assigned to the case are also providing additional security for the affected staff members.
Trump and two of his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, have also thrown darts at Merchán’s daughter. The woman served as the president of a company that Vice President Harris used to raise digital funds and advertising during her presidential run called Authentic Campaigns.
Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a secret payment of $130,000 that his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, made to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election to keep her quiet about a alleged affair with Trump. .
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has denied having a relationship with Daniels.
