Judge Manuel Chuyoof the Second Anticorruption Specialized Preparatory Investigation Court, recused itself from the investigation carried out by the Public Ministry on the alleged coordination between Petroperú officials and the businesswoman karelim lopez to favor Heaven Petroleum Operators (HPO), owned by Samir Abudayeh.
Chuyo Zavaleta walks away from the case due to the friendship that he maintains with the lawyer Leyla Marina Morante Cabrera, who assumes the legal defense of Gregorio Sáenz Moya, representative of the National Board of Palm Growers and worker of Petroperú between November 11 and December 15 of last year.
According to the resolution to which he agreed The Republic, the friendly link between the magistrate and Morante Cabrera began when the lawyer worked in the Superior Court of Justice of Lima and the National System Specialized in Crimes of Corruption of Officials. “Entities in which the undersigned has worked and I currently work as a judge,” Chuyo said in the document.

“It is necessary to point out that As a result of the friendship with said lawyer, I have maintained telephone communication before knowing the requirements presented by the Public Ministry (The requirements were presented when this judge was not in charge of the Second Preparatory Investigation Court)”, added the magistrate.
In that sense, Manuel Chuyo warned that his continuity in the diligence “could generate doubts about the impartiality of the undersigned, even affecting or delegitimizing the decisions that are issued as a result of the investigation ordered by the Public Ministry.”
For this reason, it decided to withdraw from the case involving Hugo Angel Chavez (president of Petroperú), Gunther Documet Celis (distribution manager of Petroperú), Muslaim Jorge Abusada (supply chain manager), Roger Daniel Liy (manager of the Department of Hydrocarbons Purchases) as perpetrators of the alleged crime of simple collusion and alternatively the crime of incompatible negotiation to the detriment of the State.
