Judge Néviton Guedes, from the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF1), based in Brasília, upheld the decision that allowed former federal deputy Eduardo Cunha to apply. He is expected to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for São Paulo in the October elections.
In the decision handed down yesterday (10), the magistrate denied an appeal by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to annul the injunction of the judge Carlos Augusto Pires Brandão who suspended the effects of the resolution of the Chamber that confirmed the cassation of Cunha, in 2016.
The ex-deputy was impeached on the charge of having lied during testimony at the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of Petrobras about the existence of accounts abroad.
Cunha’s defense alleged that the information about the blocking of an account in Switzerland that would belong to the then deputy was protected by tax secrecy and could not be shared by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) with the Chamber without judicial authorization.
