Given the increase in suspected cases of Febrile Eruptive Illness and the confirmed case of measles, from Monday, February 20, educational institutions will ask parents for their children’s vaccination booklet.
The Vice Minister of Education, Alcira Sosa, announced at a press conference that starting Monday, when the 1,500,000 students return to classrooms, teachers and principals will be requesting the vaccination booklet for the corresponding control.
“If it is verified that they do not have the complete scheme, the Ministry of Health should be informed immediately,” he said at the time of emphasizing that the educational community and the health service are accompaniment for the immunization of the children.
For his part, Édgar Ríos, Deputy Defender in Civil, Childhood and Adolescence of the Ministry of Public Defense, He said that from his institution they will be closely monitoring the vaccination of students. “Parents and guardians should know that it is a obligation to comply with the campaigns based on the vaccine law. There is an obligation, parents can be penalized. If the parents oppose complying with the norm, the criminal area is notified and an investigation is carried out and sanctions could be reached ”, he highlighted.

At the same time, Héctor Castro, director of the PAI, reported that at the moment there is only one confirmed case of measles and more than 300 suspected cases of Febrile Eruptive Disease. “That already activates what is the response in each of the departments to go visit the community where the child resides,” she said.
The new vaccination scheme for the triple viral vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is carried out as follows:
• The boy or girl must receive their first dose of the MMR vaccine at 12 months of life; and the second dose at 18 months. This modification applies to boys and girls born in August 2021.
• Children 18 months or older and do not have a history of vaccination, administer two doses with a minimum interval of 1 month between doses.
• Similarly, parents of children 18 months and older pending receiving the second dose should bring them to the vaccination center in order to complete their scheme.
