Puerto Plata.- Judge Romaldy Marcelino Henríquez, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Care Services of Puerto Plata, ordered one year of preventive detention, as a measure of coercion, against the accused Luisa Fernanda González Contreras, who is linked to a trafficking network. of people, dismantled during Operation El Círculo.
The magistrate imposed preventive detention against González Contreras and declared the processing process complex after fully accepting the request of the Public Ministry.
The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office Against Illicit Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking (PETT), headed by court prosecutor Yoanna Bejarán, in collaboration with the Puerto Plata Prosecutor’s Office, directed by prosecutor Kelmi Duncan, are in charge of the investigations, which carried out by the investigative prosecutors Carmen Daynisa Rosario Pascual and Patricia Lagombra Polanco.
This process focuses on a criminal human trafficking network dedicated to the recruitment, transfer, shelter and sexual exploitation of Colombian women brought to the Dominican Republic.
The accused Luisa Fernanda González Contreras faces charges after being identified as the main person involved in the recruitment of Colombian citizens, transported and sheltered in Puerto Plata, abusing their vulnerable situation for the purposes of sexual exploitation.
This case highlights not only the serious violation of the human rights of the victims, but also the operation of criminal networks that put the security and well-being of our society at risk, the Public Ministry points out in the instance with the request for measure of coercion.
As a result of the investigations and evidence presented, the Public Ministry, represented at the hearing by prosecutor Marcos Wilkins Díaz, established the connection of the woman with the events of which they are accused.
The accused faces charges of violation of Law 137-03 on Illicit Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking, Article 309 of the Dominican Penal Code, as well as Law 631-16 for the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials. , to the detriment of the Dominican State.
This operation was possible, thanks to a joint work between the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office Against Illicit Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking (PETT), the Puerto Plata Prosecutor’s Office, the Special Division for the Investigation of Transnational Crimes (Deidet), the Homeland Security Department Investigations (HSI) and the Preventive Police of Puerto Plata, with the support of the NGO Anti-Trafficking Buereau (ATB).
