The judge Richard Concepcion Carhuancho, has broken his silence and spoke out in the Sunday newspaper ‘Panorama’ to defend his honor against accusations that link him to the return of gold bars seized in a case of illegal mining linked to the ‘Chibolín Case’. In an interview that he himself assures will be his last, the magistrate affirmed that he has never made unfair decisions and that his integrity is above all else.I prefer death to dishonor“he said emphatically, denying any involvement in the return of the gold.
The accusations arose around the case of the Lomas Doradas mining company, owned by the Miu Lei familywho had requested the return of five gold bars confiscated in an operation. Carhuancho, however, explained that he denied the request and revealed the names of the authorities who authorized the return.
The Judge and the Gold: What Really Happened?
Judge Concepción Carhuancho became involved in the case when Sister Siucho said that her cousins Miu Lei had paid Andrés Hurtado a million dollars so that Carhuancho, with his “mother”, the prosecutor Elizabeth Peralta, would return the gold seized from the company Lomas Doradas.
“It is inaccurate, I have not made any judicial decision regarding this (the return of the gold). I have not returned the gold, I have not made any decision in this regard,” Carhuancho said for the aforementioned program.
Along these lines, Concepción Carhuancho clarified that a total of nine gold bars were confiscated, of which four have been returned, but that he would not be involved in the release of these bars to the company Lomas Doradas. According to his own statements, two gold bars were returned by the Second Permanent National Criminal Appeals Court, in which three judges sign:
- Quispe Auca
- Galvez Condori
- Medina Salas
As for the other two bars, he explains that the return provision was issued on January 24, 20232 by the prosecutor Lucio Salt and Roses Guerrero.
The truth behind the Miu Lei case
Carhuancho explained that, in relation to the 5 bars in the Miu Lei case, he called a hearing and denied the return of the remaining five gold bars. However, he indicated that there was a withdrawal of the appeal and another decision by the prosecutor Lucio Sal y Rosas, who made the final decision to return them to the company Lomas Doradas.
Finally, Carhuancho emphasized that he cannot assume responsibility for the decisions of others, and reaffirmed his position that he has not committed any irregularities.
