Chamorro narrated, from Washington, that he was totally incommunicado. “However, here we are with our heads held high,” he added.
The Nicaraguan politician narrated that the prisoners released by the government of Daniel Ortega were put on buses without knowing where they were going.
“And those who know Managua know that the Modelo prison was very close to the airport, it was very close to the airport. Our expectation, some of us thought we were going to the Modelo prison,” he added.
However, Chamorro recounted that at that moment the three buses “that transported the prisoners coming from Chipote, turned right at the Air Force and then we realized that we were flying out of the country, we did not know where, until we Obviously we have already been informed.
“We are in the land of freedom (United States), we are grateful that 224 people were able to get out of the dictatorship,” Chamorro stressed.
The leader who aspired to the Presidency of Nicaragua asserted that he is grateful to all the organizations that managed the release of political prisoners. He added that now his priority is to be reunited with his wife Victoria Cárdenas, but he has continued to be committed to the freedom of Nicaragua.
“I want to thank God and thank all the institutions, all the people, all the lawyers, all the countries that have made this miracle possible, a miracle of freedom,” he stressed. Chamorro was kidnapped for 20 months in the maximum security prisons of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.
For its part, the organization Presas y Presos Políticos Nicaragua denounced, that after comparing the list of political prisoners of the Orteg government with the published list of released persons, “We identified 38 people who were not included, we demand their immediate release.” Within the group of prisoners not released is Bishop Rolando José Álvarez Lago.
