Juan Requesens after expulsion: Fight for Venezuela requires progress on different fronts

Juan requesens

The former deputy Juan Requesens has criticized the decisions taken by the National Directorate regarding the participation in the May 25 elections. After knowing his nomination for another party, First Justice formalized his expulsion on Monday with figures such as Henrique Capriles, Tomás Guanipa, Pablo Pérez, Ángel Medina and Amelia Belisario

The former deputy Juan Requesens made public a letter on Monday 14, where he resigned from his militancy in First Justice and assured that “the fight for Venezuela requires that we continue to advance from different fronts.” This after being expelled from the political organization for its nomination as a candidate for the Government of Miranda in the elections planned for May 25.

«The paths of those who fight for the release of Venezuela can be translated from different spaces. The magnitude of the challenge we face demands amplitude, intelligence and generosity to build new alliances, open paths and add efforts from different trenches, ”said Requesens in a document.

He pointed out that he does not agree with the latest decisions that the organization has made, “I also do not share the way the Headquarters has been acting.”

The former deputy has criticized the decisions taken by the National Directorate regarding the participation in the elections to elect governors, deputies to the National Assembly and representatives of the Legislative Councils. Due to his position to participate in these elections, and after knowing his nomination for other parties, First Justice officialized his expulsion on Monday with figures such as Henrique Capriles, Tomás Guanipa, Pablo Pérez, Ángel Medina and Amelia Belisario.

According to Requesens, in First Justice – which acknowledged as his political home – for a few years “the differences became existential, thinking differently is pointed out as betrayal, it is judged on the contrary as an enemy.” He also thanked the support of his militants during the five years he was imprisoned.

For his part, the economist and former deputy José Guerra said in a video that “it is arbitrariness and authoritarian management of the party” the expulsion of Capriles, Requesens and four other leaders of that party, since the rules of the organization were not followed to make this type of decisions.

Guerra, which is part of the Board of the National Directorate, said that the document has no signature and “usurp” the acronym of the party. He stressed that to date a sanction of the Disciplinary Court of PJ is not known where the expulsion of these six people is official.

“Let’s do our best so that this game survives this situation so serious that they are living, tell me for that, but not for expulsion, not to have the guillotine in your hand, to take your head from several colleagues who have been in the fight for so many years,” the former deputy asked.

*Journalism in Venezuela is exercised in a hostile environment for the press with dozens of legal instruments arranged for the punishment of the word, especially the laws “against hatred”, “against fascism” and “against blockade.” This content was written taking into consideration the threats and limits that, consequently, have been imposed on the dissemination of information from within the country.
